You have a choice for iOS - the original iTAK, or the newer (and in many ways more capable) TAK Aware.  It is your preference - all apps are interoperable - but for the most features, we recommend TAK Aware. Both are available on the Apple Store.

Installation and Initial Setup

1. Install TAK Aware or iTAK.  It's your choice.

2. Secure, encrypted, connection to the server is handled with a username and password - provided during enrollment.  If partner organizations require access, they should go through enrollment as well.  

3. Once you complete the Enrollment Form and it is approved, you will receive an email with instructions to log into the FLTAK Portal (https://takportal.fltak2.cdrp.net). 

4. Log into the FLTAK Portal. We recommend you do this on a laptop, desktop, or tablet - a device separate from the phone or tablet you are connecting to the server.

5. Select "Onboarding / Setup My Device" in the left menu.  

6. Click Apple (Phone / Tablet), then select either iTAK -or- TAK Aware.  You only need one per device - when in doubt, use TAK Aware.

7. Under Step 2: Enroll Your Device, click the "Open in App or Scan QR"

8. This will open a window with a QR Code and two buttons.

9. Open the camera on your iOS device. NOTE: if you chose iTAK, follow the directions on the screen. You will need to open iTAK and scan from inside that app.

10. Point your camera at the QR code and select the notification to open the link. This will open iTAK or TAK Aware on the device.

11. Select "Yes" to perform quick enrollment inside the selected program.

12. If you logged into the TAK Portal from the device you wish to enroll, click the "Open in App" button.

iTAK Customization Instructions

1. Open iTAK.

2. The first time you open iTAK, it may want to walk through a ‘wizard’ – just skip through all this. 

3. Click the User Icon, which includes your default callsign, at the top of the settings options.  

4. Set your Callsign, Team, and Role using the information in the Callsigns page.  Replace [USER] with your last name.

5. Click “Save”

6. Close settings ("X" in the upper right).

iTAK is now set up and ready to use. 

TAK Aware Customization Instructions

1. Click the overflow menu button in the upper right - it’s the last icon in the visible toolbar (three horizontal lines). This will open the full menu.

2. Click your current/default callsign under "User Information"

3. Set your Callsign, Team, and Role using the information in the Callsigns page.  Replace [USER] with your last name.

4. Click back to “Settings”

5. Click Close.

TAK Aware is now set up and ready to use.
